FAQ Page

How much will it cost to visit the Emergency Room?

The initial cost of an ER visit is $98.00. That initial fee covers a consult with a doctor and physical exam of your pet. Further tests and associated costs will then be determined and discussed with the client.

Do you vaccinate pets?

No.  We do not provide primary care services.  We encourage you to establish a relationship with a family veterinarian in your area.  We offer advanced surgical, medical, emergency, and critical care for dogs and cats.  We act as an extension of your family veterinarian for second opinions or when specialized diagnostic treatments, procedures or surgeries are required.

Do you offer boarding services?

No, we do not have boarding services available.  We recommend contacting your veterinarian for boarding facilities in your area.

How soon can I get an appointment?

To schedule with a specialist, appointments for non-emergent situations can usually be scheduled within 7-10 days.  Appointments are not needed for emergency care.  Walk-in emergencies are welcome.

Do I have to have a referral from my veterinarian to see a specialist?

No, you do not.  While we work very closely with family veterinarians throughout the region and encourage our clients to have a relationship with a veterinarian, you may schedule an appointment without your veterinarian referring you.

What if I have an emergency on a holiday?

We are always open and ready to help your pet.  AVREC is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  Emergency walk-ins are welcome and there is always a doctor on-site.

Can I visit my pet when hospitalized?

Yes.  Visitation frequency will be determined once the doctor has evaluated your pet’s current condition.

Do you offer payment plans?

At AVREC we ask for payment in full upon discharge from the hospital.  The only payment plans we have available are through a financing company called Care Credit (credit card through Synchrony Bank) which offers a variety of financing options including, in some cases, 12 months with no interest if paid in full by the end of the term.  You can apply for this card from here or from home through the carecredit.com website or by calling 1.800.365.8295.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and Care Credit (carecredit.com).

How often can I call to check on my pet when hospitalized?

You may call at any time of the day or night and a veterinary technician will give you detailed information and updates on your pet.  We are open and have staff available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

How do I get to your hospital?

We are conveniently located less than a ¼ mile east of the Copley Road exit (SR 162) off of State Route 21, before reaching Copley Circle.  Our address is: 1321 Centerview Circle, Akron, Ohio 44321.  For personalized directions from your location, please call 330.665.4996.

Do you accept pet insurance?

Yes, but unlike human health insurance, pet insurance companies reimburse you after you have paid for your visit in full.  You would need to contact your individual pet insurance company for details of your pet’s policy. However, we are happy to assist you in completing claim forms by documenting the diagnosis and treatment.  At your request, we can provide you with additional copies of your release instructions and receipt so you can submit this with your claim form.

Where do I park?

Our client parking lot is conveniently located at the front of our hospital.  If the front lot is full there are additional spaces available near the entrances for Ophthalmology and Dermatology, or, at the back of the hospital.  If you have questions when you arrive, please call or pull up to the front of the building and the front office will assist you.
