Starting Monday, August 1, 2016, AVREC is proud to offer Neurology to our ever growing list of specialty services provided at our hospital. Dr. Michele Provencher, a board certified Neurologist, will be the head of the department.

Having completed her neurology residency at The Ohio State University, Dr. Provencher has broad training in all aspects of neurology and neuroscience.  She intends to focus her practice on medical neurology as well as surgical.  Areas of interest include inflammatory brain disease, seizure management, muscle nerve biopsies, spine/disc disease (IVDD), craniotomies and spinal stabilization procedures.  Dr. Provencher maintains that a multi-modal approach, which could include rehabilitation and acupuncture, is often the best approach when dealing with certain neurologic cases. Dr. Provencher will be working very closely with our surgery and internal medicine departments as well.

Born and raised in Glens Falls, New York, Dr. Provencher received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH.  She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine and stayed to complete her internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Minnesota, as well, before heading off to Columbus for her residency in neurology.  She is proud to say she also worked as a veterinary assistant at a private practice while attending vet school.  During her residency, she also earned her Master’s degree in Comparative and Veterinary Medicine.

When she is not actively practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Provencher enjoys spending time in the outdoors, particularly running, biking or hiking.  She often shares her outdoor activity with her two best buds, Annie and Sami her mixed breed canine companions.  Her most memorable outdoor experience in which she participated was a cross country ski marathon in Norway.

Dr. Provencher has grown very fond of Ohio since coming here several years ago.  She adds, “I have had the good fortune of developing some lasting friendships since coming to Ohio.  I look forward to making a home in the Akron area and getting to know those in the northeast Ohio veterinary community”.

As a specialty referral hospital, we continue to strive to provide for our clients the best customer service, the highest quality of care and the services to help their pets. Dr. Provencher is actively seeing new clients and appointments.
